This enabled the staff to understand the powerful and comprehensive product, which allowed them to jump right into using it. "If you're going to make the decision to purchase Altru, then you must take the training, and we chose to purchase a multiyear subscription to ensure that we keep our skills current," Bill said. Within the first few months of the museum's subscription, staff members took several classes multiple times as their understanding of the product broadened. "From an employee retention perspective, Blackbaud University's Learn Everything training subscription is money well spent. The additional training opportunities support our holistic approach in incorporating Altru into the museum, keeping our staff engaged and growing professionally. That alone is worth the cost!" Bill shared. Since Bill has a financial mindset, he is always looking at the return on investment of anything the museum purchases. He understands the value of Blackbaud University training and is already seeing a noteworthy ROI. "The virtual instructor-led classes are efficient; our staff can take the classes at work without interrupting their day and their time is being well spent," he said. The museum is incorporating the training into its official onboarding program, and it has outlined specific classes that every new staff member needs to take. In addition, it has created a strategy around what classes all staff members need to retake in the future. For example, many of the staff members have already gone back and taken the Query 1 and Query 2 courses, because while taking the classes they are able to apply the lessons to specific queries that they are running in their own system. In addition to the Altru training classes, Bill took his first Organizational Best Practices class. He chose to take a class within the fundraising learning path because he is very aligned with the museum's development team and finds it beneficial to learn more about that area. "I learned a great deal in this class, even with my years of experience in the nonprofit sector. I thought the class was fantastic and I plan to continue to take the Organizational Best Practices as a cross-training opportunity for myself," Bill explained. After taking the class, Bill sent an email to multiple staff members at the museum encouraging them to take the classes that would be beneficial to their roles. Kohl Children's Museum is taking full advantage of Blackbaud's resources and has seen significant results. Altru is a powerful system that can take an organization to the next level, but with proper training from Blackbaud University, the success can be taken even further. The museum is still in the early stages of using Altru, but staff and management members are excited about the future with this product and plan to keep their skills current with additional training from Blackbaud University.
